Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort:  Japan Powder Heaven

Nozawa Onsen’s mountain is mostly intermediate and beginner runs making it perfect to take a family of first timers or the family in general.  This isn’t to say Nozawa isn’t suitable for advanced level skiers or boarders.  Nozawa has some very fun off-piste terrain with open tree shoots in both the back and side country.  Guides can be provided if you would like to explore these areas with a local expert.

Extending from the top to the foot of Mt. Kenashi (1,650m), Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort boasts an altitude differential of 1,085 meters and a total ski slope area of 297 hectares. Indeed, the resort ranks among the very top in Japan in terms of size, its history and snow quality.  The abundance of 100% natural, high-quality powder snow allows you to enjoy skiing well into early May.

Mountain Base Area
The mountain base area has wide and gentle terrain that is suited to children who are skiing or snowboarding for the first time. Nozawa Onsen Ski Resort has three main entrances: the Hikage Trail, which is accessible from the spa town via Yu-road; the Nagasaka Trail, which is easily accessible by car from the new parking lot; and the Karasawa Trail, which has both medium and gentle terrains. If you need a rest, you can take a break in the rest houses that are adjacent to each trail.  Additionally, a free rest station for kids called the "Naski Room" has been opened on the 2nd floor of the Hikage Trail Information Centre.

Powder Snow Area
Trails with high-quality powder snow Nozawa Onsen village is well-known for having the heaviest snowfall in Nagano Prefecture. With the recent surge in the popularity of powder snow, this village has been attracting many skiers and snowboarders seeking its superb powder—not only from across Japan, but from all over the world.  You will particularly enjoy skiing and snowboarding on the powder snow in the mountain top area, where the maximum snow accumulation may be more than 5m.

Spring Time in Japan - Bluebird Days and no crowds

We'll let you in on a bit of a secret!...Spring Skiing in Japan is amazing. It's not unusal for a 3 metre base in April.  World Surfaris/Snowfaris staff have travelled several times to Nozawa Onsen and Hakuba in March/April and enjoyed perfect Bluebird days, mild temperatures and top to bottom boarding with no one around.  You should consider Nozawa Onsen and Hakuba for March/April .  Don't wait too long though as it's already filling due to lack of beds in Jan/Feb.

Optimum Conditions:

Best chance of Powder from Mid December till Mid March.  Great Spring conditions with Bluebird days and no crowds and usually a 3m base right through to April.
