Overview

Myoko Vista ski lodge is situated in Myoko Kogen (Akakura Onsen), approximately 45 minutes from Nagano and 3.5 hours from Tokyo.  This Ski in Ski out boutique property is located on the upper side of Akakura Onsen with all rooms boasting views of the surrounding resort and township.  The property also offers an in-house traditional bathhouse overlooking the snow and ski runs of Myoko Akakura Resort.

All rooms are designed to be comfortable and spacious, allowing guests a little bit of Japanese luxury amongst Western comforts.  Each of the rooms are on the traditional Japanese tatame and include private bathroom (shower and toilet), Western style bedding (including down duvet and pillows), bespoke body amenities, TV/iPhone docks, wi-fi internet access and central heating.  All have large glass sliding doors and private verandahs.

Myoko Vista boasts a penthouse room, with views, space and amenities unlike anything else in town. The penthouse covers one entire half of the top floor of the building and has expansive views over the valley (in fact on clear days you can see Madarao, Tangram, Nozawa Onsen and Shiga Kogen), full kitchen, large bathroom and an exquisite Western style bath.

Myoko Kogen Ski Resort

Myoko Kogen is a laid back Japanese village located in the Niigata prefecture about 1 hour train from Nagano station.  The resort has 9 resorts with the main resort being Akakura Kanko which is a traditional Japanese village where most of the accommodation, restaurants, ski hire and atmosphere is located.

Some of the other popular ski resorts in the area which are all within a half an hour drive from Akakura Kanko include Myoko Suginohara, Mt Tangram, Madarao, Akakura Onsen, Seki Onsen and Ikenotaira Onsen.

Suginohara has the longest ski run in Japan which at 8.5km’s is a decent leg burner especially when there is a significant amount of fresh snow. Apart from Suginohara, Akakura Onsen has one of the steepest runs in Japan suitable for advanced level skiers and snowboarders. Tree skiing is also allowed in Myoko Kogen and backcountry / side country tours can also be arranged with a qualified local guide. Beginners and Intermediates will also be able to find suitable terrain for their abilities with 30% green runs and 40% Intermediate runs on average throughout the Myoko Kogen area.

The Niigata Prefecture averages 12-16 metres of snow per season with a fresh dump of snow falling every 3 days on average. Make sure you pack your powder ski’s and snowboards or simply hire one from the many rental shops located in Akakura Kanka.
